Travel to Cabuya Costa Rica

To get there from San Jose;

- An excellent option is to use the daily shuttle van. This can be just a transport service, from the airport to the house, or it can include a night at a hotel, five minutes from the airport, a light breakfast in the morning and transportation early in the morning all of the way to the house in Cabuya. You are picked up by an air conditioned van (seats about eleven people) that takes you to the ferry (includes the ferry ticket) . At the other side of the ferry, another identical van will pick you up and drive you right to the door of your destination in Cabuya. The transport service is $55/person or if you are doing the hotel package it is $85/person or $75/person if you are sharing a room. It leaves twice daily most of the year, once daily from May to November, generally once at 6:30 am and once at 2pm, although that is subject to change based upon ferry schedules, time of year, etc. We can set this service up for you when you book your vacation rental!

-You can book a mini-flight on Sansa air (small jets) that takes about 25 minutes to land on the Nicoya peninsula. The tickets range from $55 to $100 per person. The terminal is connected to the San Jose airport, so it is easy to walk there when you exit the terminal (or take a 20 second cab ride if you are unsure). The plane lands in Tambor, very close to a rental car place. At that point, you can either cab out to the center (about 25-30 minutes, depending upon the driving speed, the cab is around $45), take a bus (check the local bus schedules online) or rent a car to complete the trip to Cabuya. Nature air also goes to Tambor, but the terminal is at the other side of San Jose and will require a $25 cab ride from the international airport to get there.

-You can take a bus from the Coca Cola station in San Jose (which is a 25-30 minute cab ride from the airport) all of the way to Montezuma (4 miles from Cabuya), then take a cab from Montezuma to Cabuya. You can check those schedules online. The bus ticket is about $16 per person and the bus goes over the ferry. There is a direct bus to Montezuma that leaves at 2:00 in the afternoon daily (as of Nov.2013), but it is always good to check online for any changes. Once in Montezuma, you can take a cab to Cabuya (four miles away). Cabs are generally waiting at the bus stop.

-You can  rent a car near the San Jose airport and drive to Puntarenas to catch the ferry. The drive is about 1 hour. The Ferry will take you across the peninsula for about $26/per car and $2 per person. The ride is about one hour. The Ferry lets you out at Paquera. The drive from Paquera to the cottage is also about one hour. We really enjoy the drive…to Puntarenas there are beautiful mountain and valley views most of the way, the drive from Paquera to Cabuya is also lovely countryside, hills and jungle flowers. The ferry is comfortable, has indoor air conditioned seating and outdoor seating. There is some food and beverage available on the ferry.

Note; when you reserve your vacation rental, specific directions to that location will be sent to you!
